Caliperrssss
Not the ones for your brakes dummmmyy. Order a digital set of calipers today. Hope to be able to make my own adjustable-heim-jointed traction rods for my 240. Once I get my measurements from my spare subframe I can order up some parts and see if I can make em myself on the cheap. We'll see what happens I'll keep this venture updated here.
Wheelies
looking at some wheelies recently. Also been seeing alot of pics of low+snow dudes. Making me think maybe putting the coils back on might not be that bad as long as I take car of em. So I'll see how my wheel search turns out and maybe i might be gettin a job plowing snow for my town part time in the 240

Epic lows
Bought me some Stance GR+ PRO coilovers, decided to put em on the car to see how low they actually went. They went lower but only marginally compared to my current setup(cut springs on stock struts. That kinda depressed me but I know I can get more low from taking out collars and turning the bodies up to the spring perch. The rears go epicly low, I still have a shit-ton of room and a helper spring in place in the rear and they tucked tire like crazy. I wish the fronts were the same. Oh well maybe I'll buy shorter springs for the front and get the moar low I yearn for.
Enough chit chat, its picture time

ups and downs
Well the kz, 240z, and hardbody pickup I was tryin to purchase all fell through. I figured it must be a sign, I must invest in the 240. Parts are waiting to be ordered, gotta wait for money to show up in my account first. Im starting to want to go a different way with my 240. A cleaner, lower, better way. I love rat rod style but I got an aggressive front bumper for free and I might pick up the matching skirts and bumper next weekend. Then I need to get wheels and coilovers this winter to go along with the adjustable suspension arms I have on order. Time to get stanced and have a car that looks bad and drives ever badder...is that a word?

Livin it
Been pretty happy lately now that my car's running and whatnot. Took a placement test to see if I qualify to get into welding school. Waiting to hear back hopefully by the end of the week. I now have switched my stance on cut springs. I always thought it wasn't really that bad, cut your springs and lower/stiffen up the ride for a win win situation. However driving on them for extended periods of time blows donkey balls. All my struts are blown and i can't hit the smallest bump now without bouncing down the road for miles. I can't wait to get some money rolling in so i can start sinking it in to my car and get it set up over the winter. I'm excited for a season of snow-drifting but I'm also hoping my heim joints don't get to fucocked from salt and shit. We'll see what the winter brings and hopefully by next summer I can have my car set up the way I want.

Progressive FTW
Went to get insurance today and got quotes of $2000+ from everywherre I went for basic. basic, BASIC insurance. I came home saddened and thinking I would never drive again. Turned on the TV, and i saw a commercial for progressive. Went online and less than 10 minutes later I have a insurance policy for only $100 down, $70 a month and $800 total for the year. Super happy. Also decided to change the background pic today, I used a shitty point and click that my girl had because my damn iphone 4's virtual shutter froze. I'll get the hang of it hopefully and then I can have something that takes even better pics than my iphone

Seein the sunshine
Checked out my cam timing today, looks like it's dead on balls so that means I didn't my timing chain didn't jump a tooth and all is well in timing land. However the cause of my issues are bad injectors. Gonna try to see if I can get away with replacing the o-rings and trying to clean em out with carb cleaner or something. Gotta get my car squared away then I gotta focus on getting re-insured. Then get learned and get a job fabbin. Then get money and build this beast like I've wanted to for years.

But wait there's more....
To add more shittiness to my already shitty situation, my insurance was cancelled today due to an error in the company's phone payment system. They're being pricks and won't admit it was their fault and pretty told me to go fuck myself. So no insurance, no car, no job, no money and I'm just about at the end of my rope. Fackin fack fackity doo. Here's to hoping life gets better.

Car woes
My car has been good to me for the last month or so since the rebuild. But today it decided it wanted to quit and decided to jump a tooth on the timing chain. Or at least that's what it looks like. Life blows, no car, no job, no money. Gotta look at the bright side, gotta find something good to focus on. In times like this I think moving out wasn't the best of ideas. Can't sit and bitch about it though, gotta tear apart my motor again and fix that shit.

Rusticles
Found this out behind the garage today, this is what I want my hood to look like. I love the look of a good patina, the different textures and colors are amazing. The project has kind of taken a hiatus unfortunately since I've been cut-off on my unemployment and have to wait weeks for Rhode Island to get off it's ass and approve my new claim. Living poor sucks but I'm making it work. Gonna go to welding school and get certified in every welding technique known to man. Then I'll see where life takes me...

Waste of time
Waste 9 minutes of your life watching me drive from dunkin donuts to my buddys house with my iphone ziptied to my steering wheel. This video really shows how shitty my car rides with cut springs and blown shocks, i need coils MEOW!!

Clickity-Clack
is the sound my transmission is making. Pretty sure it's my throw out bearing but I have to check anything I can without having to rip the tranny out. If it is indeed my TOB, it's time for some more upgrading. Solid tranny mount, solid subframe bushings, solid diff bushing, welded diff will all be things I will definately be doing if I have to drop my tranny. I need to find a lift, I've done this whole trans removal deal before lying on my back and it is NOT fun. Hope it's just a loose bolt I can get to easily. I'll know soon hopefully.

Why me??
I can't do it! I hate looking at eBay, for sale ads, craigslist when I have no money. I always find sweet deals and then get so stressed because I got no cash. Oh well, good things come to those with patience. Just gotta start slumming and saving every penny so I can buy the shiny things. Oh and BTW, these are 250 shipped for anyone with a kind heart :)

Sweet!
Went to go take my shifter out yesterday and during the process my brandy new iPhone fell out of my pocket and smashed on the garage floor. I'm pissed that it happened but at least the phone still works and I can still use the touch screen. Whoever said more money more problems is retarded, less money=more problems.

Started working on the beast today. Hood angle mod makes for awesome lighting without having to take off my hood. Got the engine/tranny ready to take out and once I get my cherry picker back over here I'll be able to tear the bitch out. Lots of new parts in the works and hopefully some prep and paint in the mean time

Ghey
The last couple of days have been pretty trying. Got laid off on monday, blew a brake line on tuesday, had to fix my clutch wednesday and now snapped a tie rod thursday. It's been aggravating, but I take it with a grain of salt and look at it as an opportunity to improve my car and buy more stuff. So here's the pic of the snapped tie rod that almost sent me into a jersey barrier and almost caused a 100 car pile up.

Slightly aggravated
Went to go bring a bunch of parts to newton to trade for a motor. Turns out the kid didn't have a cherry picker and I didn't feel like lifting a 450lb motor that didn't even have anything but a block, head, valve cover and oil pan. Took the intake manifold I needed and hooked him up with the parts. Pissed I didn't get a motor even more pissed the kid had me drive all the way out there and pretty much said "there's the engine, have fun!". Well, life goes on I'll get another motor somewhere else. Time to get this intake welded up and my carbs set

MOAR LOW + LIP

Ghey
Went and got the two fowdy registered today. Got raped by the registry on sales tax. Just so everyone knows my 20 year old car that had a rotted out lower rad support is worth $2000! You heard me right, $2k will buy you a 20 year old rot box. So in conclusion money spent on car including buying it: $150, money spent to register it: $247.98 = WHAT THE FUCK!! Add the $348 I spent to pay off my insurance today and that puts the total to ~$600! Looks like those heim jointed tension rods are gonna hafta wait. Still changin out my valve cover gasket tho, there's a river of oil dripping down the front of my engine :(

Made it, epicness ensues
Made it back from Sturbridge, with a piggy lip and sohc gauge cluster. Sold the grandpa mobile finally so no I have some extra income for the 240. Tension rods and sway bar links will be purchased. Selling one of my fifty hatches to Toan's friend tomorrow. Monday gotta pay off my insurance and finally register this thing so it's legal. Fun stuff
road trip!
Off to Sturbridge Mass to meet up with Kevin(DriftRPS13) from the forums. Lets hope the shitbox makes it there and this gauge cluster works...

UPDATE!!
Turns out I just don't know how to properly read a fuse diagram. Popped in a 15a fuse and I have tail lights!! Now last on the list is death wobble time then I will have the ultimate daily machine!!
Done and done...well sort of
Fixed my windsheild wipers, seat belts and got my heat working today. 3 big tings down on the list of roadworthiness. Next I have to figure out why my taillights still dont work and eventually I probably should check to see why my car does a death shake going about 35-40 lol. But heres some pics of it all together since I dont think I've taken any yet.

Rain blows
Especially when you don't have windsheild wipers. The shitbox didn't come with wipers so I figured, easy fix just steal em off the parts car and done. Well it turns out the wipers actually have to WORK in order for this plan to come to fruition. Sooo, no wipey-wipey=me driving home swerving worse than a drunk person and going about 10 mph. That was the worst 10 mile drive home EVAR! First on the list of things to do tomorrow: Fix wipers, then find out why I have no tail-lights after swapping out 3 different sets, also should find out why my seat belts don't work. Alot of stuff to do tomorrow and not alot of time. Time to do work and get this bish street worthy

Back to square one...
I need tension rod brackets. Good grief....just a couple months ago I scooped up a set for project beater but in my infinite kindness lent them to Toan so he could get his power-brace action goin. But after fighting with my lower rad support all day and then resorting to a sawzall and cutting it to shit I've realized I definately am gonna need at least one tension rod bracket. Mine as well scoop up some adjustable rods while I'm at it too. More soopage today, while underneath working on the new awesome-mobile I notice it's outfitted with goodridge SS-braided lines. Schweeet. Time to put out the beacon on ONE and see if I can't track down some tension rod brackets.
The newest addition
Picked this up off a local forum guy for $170 last night. '90 black sohc 5 speed...runs like a dream. Practically rust free. Only downside is the interior is ripped apart, but I have more than enough experience tearing apart and putting back together interior pieces so today starts my new project of getting this thing road worthy within a day and driving it to CT tomorrow to pick up more 240 parts.

My addiction...
Or maybe its just a curse, but tomorrow I'm going to connecticut to pick up yet another parts car. I might even fix this one up and use it as a beater, all it really needs by the sound of it is a driver seat and probably some other bs stuff. Who knows, maybe its time to retire my 15mpg grandpa-mobile for a 240 daily. Or maybe it's time to break out the cutting disks and go to town. I'll see when its back in rehoboth and I have a moment to think. I can't wait to get my fix although my yard is starting to look like a 240 graveyard...dunno if that's a good thing or bad. Either way I know I'm gonna get the "Another one!?!" comment from the gf but I guess an addiction to 240's is better than an addiction to crack, right?

SOOOPED!!
Just got paid, can't wait to make the trip to CT this weekend and scoop up all the parts Ive been scoping out. Just won a set of carbs on ebay.... the build is starting to come together!!

Part 2...DONE!
Part 2 of my mini-project of stripping the rust bucket is done... after 2 ratchets and a bunch of cussing the subframe is out! Next on the agenda is doors/hatch/pedals and i should be ready to clean out the garage and prep for the actual start of my project. Getting a big check in about 4 days...can't wait...i dream of carbs and single-cammers!
Tuesday, May 4, 2010
Ahhh crap..
That's exactly what I said when this happened. I was on the last nut to take off my rear subframe on the 240 and the stud sheared off my ratchet. I loved that ratchet, for being part of a $30 155 piece tool set it definately conquered any rusted ass bolt on my car. Even using a 3 foot cheater bar on it the ratchet just served any bolt within its reach. But today it met its match...and sadly it must be put to rest. Time to go buy some new tools!!

Intro
Well now that I'm sober/awake/maybe still drunk I figured I should make a proper intro for anyone that doesn't really know me. My name is Matt Steinkamp and I live in a little cow-town called Rehoboth(Rehopless) in Massachusetts.
There isn't a whole bunch to do around here other than drink beers, light fires and shoot stuff. That's one of the reasons I am an EMT. I love being an EMT and helping out my town.
My "9-5" if you could call it that is a union ironworker of Local #37. I'm just a measly 1st year apprentice right now so I'm laid off more than working. Hopefully I can someday be a Masta Welda YO and get some good bank.
I love my 240 and I love anything/everything related to motorsports. I get my drift on here and there but have been trying to focus on rallying/hillclimbs lately.
I guess I should also say I love my girlfriend Jess, who's a paramedic and also works with me in Rehoboth. Right now we're trying to get our appartment straightened out and she's trying to convince me that marriage is a good idea.
Well I think that'll suffice for enough right now, I need to go work on my wiring harness or it'll never get done!

WTF?
I must be drunk or too damn tired because I decided to start a blog for my budding life. Gotta have my 240 build up on here. I'll probably post up some rants and raves about my life as an EMT and hopefully some stories of my work as a member of the Ironworkers Local #37. Right now tho just gonna put a pic of the current state of my 240.
